America Hates Taxes

America’s hatred of taxes goes all the way back to the founding of our nation. Britain taxed the colonies for a war fought on their behalf. However, the colonies did not have Representative in Parliament. Britain failed to both give proper representation and rescind the taxes. They also passed several harsh acts to punish the colonies. This resulted in the Revolutionary War. Today, Congress is failing to represent the people. They are looking after their own interests. Both parties refuse to compromise even though it is for the good of the people. They know Americans don’t want higher taxes. However, in relation to the rest of the western world, taxes in the U.S. are fairly low.  They are worried about getting votes because elections are coming up. What the people want may not be what they need. Congress needs to focus on what we need.I am willing to pay higher taxes to keep social security, unemployment, medicaid, medicare, and G.I. benifits. We need to realize the government needs money to run. You get what you pay for. I think Americans need to get over their fear of taxes.
